about

From the original Chicken Pot Pie EP. Song written by Dave Chipman and Jeff Gay

SONG NOTES: This is a song about goin' to Halifax from Dartmouth, taking a ferry ride across the harbour to see a show, etc. It is an answer song to Up the 'Pool by Jethro Tull! Cafe Ole used to advertise as a Clube Prive, which should at least explains that one odd reference in the lyrics

TECH NOTES: Transferred from original DAT by Terry Pulliam/Kory Bayer - the intro heard here is a bit different from the original cassette release. The DAT was now 25-plus years old and had siezed up at the start of the track, clipping off the intro. A dub of the original cassette was sent to Terry and Korey, and we used that for a new fade-in intro

lyrics

DOWN THE 'MOUTH

I'm goin' down the 'mouth
Just like you years before
To take a ride on the ferry
Just get to my real home
There's lot of chicks there
Who have facial hairs
But I'll always return back home
To the one and only

There'll be hacky sack and libraries
The famous King of Donair
And clube prives and vinyl
Thrush Hermit in the air
And the princess, she sings her song of great despair
And the princess, she sings her songs of great despair

There's lot of chicks there
Who have facial hairs
But I'll always return back home
To the one and lonely

I'm goin' down the 'mouth
Just like you years before
To take a ride on your ferry
Just get to my real home
There's lot of chicks there
Who have facial hairs
But I'll always return back home
To the one and lonely

Mike was replaced by Matt Mays (g) before they recorded their Chicken Pot Pie EP in 1994. Years later, the original trio reformed with Curtis MacPhee (g, vocals), playing a few shows (and joined by Mays on one occasion!) ... more
