about

On a tape labelled "Lemonloaf Demos" recorded prior to Chicken Pot Pie with guitarist Mike Scott

SONG NOTES: Rock n' roll is crude and overtly sexual sometimes, and from what I can make out from this early version, Rubber Duck started its life as a very crude song indeed! I will apologize in advance, thought about not transcribing these lyrics LOL. My guess is that it is about a couple looking to have sex but the girl is on her period (but how the chorus relates to this is anybody's guess!)

lyrics

RUBBER DUCK (demo)

[indistinct] such a nice day
[indistinct] like to go out and play
Oh no, the sky is crying tears
Always [indistinct] always rains when you want to have fun

Well, your father was a rolling stone
And he can't even roll his own
Roll his own

[indistinct] go away
Coming, come back some other day
Looks like, looks like [indistinct]
I give you something eat to pass the day away

Well, your father was a rolling stone
And he can't even roll his own
Roll his own
Roll his own
Roll his own

Rains, goin' away
Coming back some other day
Looks like you're too wet to play
So I'll give you something to eat

Mike was replaced by Matt Mays (g) before they recorded their Chicken Pot Pie EP in 1994. Years later, the original trio reformed with Curtis MacPhee (g, vocals), playing a few shows (and joined by Mays on one occasion!) ... more
