about

On a tape labelled "Lemonloaf Demos" recorded prior to Chicken Pot Pie with guitarist Mike Scott

SONG NOTES: Probably the weakest song from the EP (Rubber Duck is up there too!). I prefer this version (just barely haha), as it is a bit longer and definitely fuzzier than the studio version. One of my memories of the Chicken Pot Pie sessions was a technical SNAFU: some kind of liquid was emptied onto the recording consule, and we had to shut down for the day. When we came back, it was revealed that the intro of this song was deleted. Features the wah-wah pedal that my parents had bought me that XMAS and a fuzz sound that's giving me serious Lanny Gordin vibes! I would kill to get that tone these days LOL

TECH NOTES:
Original track sheet for Sieze
Track One: High Voc
Track Two: Low Voc
Track Three: [empty]
Track Four: Lead
Track Five: Rhythm
Track Six: Bass
Track Seven: "High" Drums
Track Eight: "Low" Drums

Based on the track sheet, I believe we rented an 8-track recorder from Musicstop for this endeavour and mixed down to cassette (audible tape anomalies)

lyrics

SIEZE (demo)

We used to walk through green fields
Hold each other's hand
But now the war has gone so high
Can't be our land, can't be our land

I used to feel you
Right by my side
But now you've drifted so far from me
That I might as well died, might as well died

[indistinct] in the spring
Feel it so strong
But in the winter, everything froze
Won't be long, won't be long

We used to walk through green fields
Hold each other's hand
But now the war has gone so high
Can't be our land, can't be our land
Can't be our land, can't be our land

Mike was replaced by Matt Mays (g) before they recorded their Chicken Pot Pie EP in 1994. Years later, the original trio reformed with Curtis MacPhee (g, vocals), playing a few shows (and joined by Mays on one occasion!) ... more
