about

From the original Chicken Pot Pie EP. Song written by Jeff Gay

TECH NOTES: Transferred from original DAT by Terry Pulliam/Korey Bayer. The original EP was recorded by Andrew Watt and John Bateman at Sustain Studios on Pleasant Street in Dartmouth. Incredible as it sounds, my notes indicate that we recorded the entire EP for $300, half of which the band had won in a battle of the bands. I mention in the notes to the Sieze demo about how the intro to this version was cut off as a result of a spilt drink. Despite this technical snafu, I remember this studio venture being one of my most exciting early musical experiences. Also I am always impressed by how good the EP sounds, mix/mastered as it was by Bateman and Watt on the fly. Being teenagers, I suppose we didn't know how far we were pushing it asking to do one more song direct to DAT. This is the missing track, Mr. Raz, which was just a joke song - sadly, this track has apparently disintegrated

lyrics

SIEZE

We used to walk through green fields
Hold each other's hand
But now the war has gone so high
Can't be our land, can't be our land

I used to feel you
Right by my side
But now you've drifted so far from me
Might as well died, might as well died

Sun's so bright in the spring
Feel it so strong
But in the winter, everything froze
Won't be long, won't be long

We used to walk green fields
Hold each other's hand
But now the war has gone so high
Can't be our land, can't be our land
Can't be our land, can't be our land
Can't be our land, can't be our land

Mike was replaced by Matt Mays (g) before they recorded their Chicken Pot Pie EP in 1994. Years later, the original trio reformed with Curtis MacPhee (g, vocals), playing a few shows (and joined by Mays on one occasion!) ... more
